A 10th Mountain Division family, stationed at Fort Drum, has won their dream honeymoon.
On March 1st, 2010 Jennifer and Specialist Bryan Burnett were married, but due to a deployment that began in September the newly wedded couple was unable to celebrate with a honeymoon.
“We got married because we wanted to stay together and it was definitely the right time for us,” said Specialist Burnett. “This is a great relief since I have not been able to give this to her. The USO helping us with that, the honeymoon is unbelievable.”
When Specialist Burnett returned from his deployment, wife Jennifer had given birth to their son and since then the two have not been able to plan a get away for just the two of them.
That was until the USO and Sandals Resorts opened a contest to military families from across the country.
“The USO on Fort Drum put out the contest. I wrote a 500 word essay on our lives in the military, our wedding, etc. We were one of out 25 couple’s chosen,” said Mrs. Burnett.
What the Burnett's were chosen for was an opportunity to travel to New York City and compete for the chance to catch the bouquet and win their dream wedding.
“I didn’t catch the bouquet, but we still won a 7 day all expenses paid dream honeymoon,” said Mrs. Burnett.
“It’s going to be awesome,” said Specialist Burnett. “Definitely need the vacation and time away. It will be a nice getaway and we get our actual honeymoon, since we have never actually been able to have that.”
The couple has a year to take the trip, and chose from 16 different getaways provided through Sandals Vacations.
