Get an inside look into Syracuse football's week of preseason camp at Fort Drum.
The Syracuse football team woke up to a slightly different sound than its alarm clocks on Sunday. The team was woken up by Drill Sergeants on its first morning of preseason camp at Fort Drum. The student-athletes were also taught how to line up in formation when walking around the base and ate its first breakfast in the dining facilities. The team participated then participated in PT and small army leadership training activities and small unit leadership classes taught by 2-87 soldiers on Sunday and Monday. Practice was held in the late afternoon in front of many military personnel and their families.

On Tuesday, the focus was football with the Orange holding two practice sessions. Teamwork and leadership have and will be the focus as the week continues.

"The army is also a team," Commanding Major General Milley said. "No general, no captain, no major, no colonel, no sergeant ever has won a battle by themselves. That doesn't happen. The battles are won or lost as a result of the collective effort of the team relative to the collective effort of the enemy. In that regard, we emphasize teamwork all the time."

The schedule for tomorrow includes more PT and small army leadership training activities, with the defense participating in PT and the offense experiencing the small army leadership training. Another session of classes taught by 2-87 soldiers will also be held after SU's afternoon practice session.

"We're fortunate through the administration here we are also working with some people that have been West Point football players," Coach Marrone said. "I think that has been a great experience for our players being able to share that."
