2 Fort Drum soldiers die from injuries sustained in seperate attacks in Afghanistan

(WTNY) -- Fort Drum has confirmed the deaths of two 10th Mountain Division soldiers stationed in Afghanistan. The deaths are said to be a result of two separate incidents that occurred earlier this week involving small arms fire from the enemy.

Twenty four year old Sgt. Shawn Farrell II of Accord, NY died Monday in Kapisa province. He was a member of the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. Farrell is survived by his wife and parents.

Killed that same day in Logar province was 20 year old Pfc. Christian Chandler of Trenton, Texas.

Chandler was a member of 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. He is survived by his mother and stepfather.
