Kiley Phillips' husband was deployed from Fort Drum last May, leaving behind his wife and 5-week-old son, Kale. Now with the holidays approaching, the Phillips are just one of many military families separated. Something photographer Rick Gerity wants to help with.
This hits home for Rick, whose son is a combat marine in Afghanistan. Together, Rick and fellow photographer John Betham started "Portraits of Love", which takes professional pictures of military families for no cost. John says it's the least he can do.
Together, the two photographers teamed up with Karen Clark, Director of the USO in Fort Drum, to make their dream of helping military families into a reality. Karen knows the role something as simple as a photo can be.
This year the "Portraits of Love" event was held at the Fairfield Hotel and Inn in Watertown, NY. Nellie Mathous, the Director of Sales at the hotel, says she's excited to be part of a great cause.
Little Kale has spent most of his young life away from his Dad, but thanks to "Portraits of Love", the distance between father and son is made just a little smaller.
