(WTNY) -- Country music star Randy Travis has undergone heart surgery.

The 54-year-old Grammy winner's family says he underwent surgery yesterday after he was admitted to a Dallas-area hospital in critical condition.  The singer's representative says Travis is suffering from weakening of the heart muscle due to infection.  Travis' sister-in-law told "People" magazine there's a history of heart problems in his family.

He's scheduled to perform August 3 at the Watertown Fairgrounds Arena as part of the DPAO's Summer Concert Series. Country music legend George Jones was originally slated to perform on the 3rd. Jones died of respiratory failure on April 9th, he was 81 years old.
