Fort Drum furloughs to begin this week

Employees will lose 20% of their income in weeks with unpaid leave, and the total furlough, approximately 11 days per worker, will result in a loss of about 4% of their annual salaries.
Fort Drum (WTNY) -- Unpaid furlough days will begin Monday for civilian Department of Defense workers at Fort Drum.

About 1,800 workers will be affected by he action.

Employees will lose 20% of their income in weeks with unpaid leave, and the total furlough, approximately 11 days per worker, will result in a loss of about 4% of their annual salaries.

The most notable of the furloughs will occur at the post's medical facilities where hours and schedules were juggled to provide coverage five days a week with limited hours on Monday and Friday.

The furloughs will not affect the post's law enforcement or fire and emergency workers.
