Watertown (WTNY) -- The jailhouse physician at the Jefferson County Jail has created another dispute between Sheriff John Burns and county officials.
Burns is requesting the county fire the current jailhouse physician, Dr. David Rosner, and replace him. The reasons were outlined in an e-mail that Burns sent to the County's Administrative office. That e-mail was then included in the agenda for the Finance and Rules Committee meeting. Burns says he sent the e-mail thinking it would remain confidential and is furious that it was released publicly.
The county says there was nothing in the e-mail asking that the information remain confidential. In the e-mail, Burns says his issues stem from Rosner not seeing inmates, not coming to the jail, and referring inmates to other doctors outside of the jail. Burns went on to state that he has chatted with Dr. Collins Kellog about the job and he has agreed to take the position.
The County Legislature would have final authority over the firing and hiring of anyone in the position.
