Watertown (WTNY) -- A strike at New York Air Brake has been averted, as least temporarily.
One day after unionized workers rejected the company's latest contract offer, which paved the way for a strike on Tuesday, a two week extension of the current contract was offered and accepted on Sunday.
The move means negotiations will continue for those couple of weeks. The union was offered a deal late last week that included pay cuts and the ending of the company's pension plan, to be replaced with a 401K . The proposal would have also allowed the company to hire non union workers.
