'Block parties' coming to downtown Watertown?

Downtown Watertown might be the place to be this coming summer.

That's because a local organization wants to have "block parties" over the course of a few Friday nights.

The Watertown Local Development Corp. has budgeted $12,000 in order to have the parties.

It would include bands playing near the gazebo, some food vendors, and a kid's play area, all in the middle of Public Square.

Mayor Joe Butler Jr. told the Times he is in favor of the idea, but did indicate that the parties might be better suited for the J.B. Wise parking lot just off the Square.

Officials are still working out the details on location and dates.
