FDRHPO's "MASH" CAMP TO OFFER STUDENTS HANDS-ON HEALTHCARE EXPERIENCES

The Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization, in collaboration with regional hospitals, Jefferson Community College and the Workforce Development Institute, is pleased to announce the opening of its summer 2017 MASH Camp sessions.

MASH Camp is a unique opportunity for students in grades 8-12 to experience and explore the healthcare industry in an interactive way. By participating in hands-on activities that highlight various career opportunities, students will learn about the educational requirements, skills, typical job duties and personal qualities of specific healthcare professionals.

Additionally, involvement in MASH Camp provides students the opportunity to network with healthcare professionals in their community to build long-term mentoring relationships.

Each of the 3-day sessions (from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.) will help answer questions and provide students with a path to explore their career options in depth. Regardless of facility placement, each day will be different and provide interesting, thought-provoking exercises and real-life experiences, including an interactive session with the LifeNet helicopter crew!

“MASH Camp is often the catalyst that ignites the passion and interest of our local students to further pursue their educational and career exploration in the healthcare field,” said Tracy L. Leonard, FDRHPO’s Regional Workforce Lead. “As a launching point in the regional workforce pipeline, MASH Camp provides students the opportunity to make early and informed decisions about their future academic and professional goals. It truly is a collective community effort aimed at building a strong, sustainable healthcare workforce for the future.”

Camp dates are as follows:

Samaritan Medical Center: July 18-20, 2017

Lewis County General Hospital: July 25-27, 2017

River Hospital: July 25-27, 2017

Carthage Area Hospital: August 1-3, 2017

Jefferson Community College: August 8-9, 2017

About the Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization

The Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization (FDRHPO) is an agency that strengthens the North Country Healthcare System for Fort Drum soldiers, their families and the surrounding three-county civilian community. FDRHPO connects the Military Treatment Facility with the regional health care system. FDRHPO does not provide services; rather our role is to evaluate, plan and strengthen the link between Fort Drum and tri-county civilian community members and quality health care in Northern New York.
