Firefighters Battle Boat Fire

Fire crews fought a blaze on a boat off the shore of Sackets Harbor for more than an hour Sunday evening, before the fire burned through the hull and the vessel sank.

According to Watertown Daily Times, there were no injuries as all four occupants of the boat made it safely to shore earlier in the evening. The 52-foot Sea Ray Sedan Bridge boat was owned by Robert G. Schuerch, of Vestal, and was docked all season at Navy Point Marine in Sackets Harbor. The boat was engulfed by the time firefighters arrived. According to Jefferson County Emergency Dispatch, before the call went out to first responders at 6:06 p.m., an individual on County Route 59 called to report the vessel on fire, loose and floating towards Sackets Harbor.
