Thousands of mourners expected for fallen State Trooper Davis' calling hours

Thousands of mourners are expected to pay tribute to slain New York State trooper Joel Davis this afternoon.

Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the McGrath Sports Complex on Fort Drum. For the ceremony, the 45th Infantry Gate off State Route 26 will be opened for the public--no ID needed--at 1 p.m. today to access calling hours. There will also be shuttle busess running from Indian River Central starting at 3 p.m.

The public can use the same gate Saturday to attend funeral services at 1 p.m.

A public precession for Trooper Davis will leave Drum Saturday and then go through Watertown's Public Square at about 3 p.m. on the way to Brookside Cemetery for a private burial.

Thirty-two-year-old Justin Walters is accused of killing Davis, who was first officer on scene after Walters shot and killed his wife Nichole Sunday evening.

Justin Walters is in jail without bail, charged with first and second-degree murder.
