*Update* Five reportedly taken to hospital after lightning strike at Fort Drum

WSYR -- The incident reportedly happened near Fort Drum Range 23 just after 9 last night
Fort Drum (Nathan Lehman WTNY) - More information is being released on the lightning strike that injured a number of soldiers last night on Ft. Drum.  

The military says 10 soldiers were hurt in the incident.  Those soldiers are members of the New Jersey National Guard.  None of the injuries suffered in the incident are reportedly life threatening with a large majority of the soldiers back on active duty. 

The strike happened on a range near Natural Bridge Tuesday night at around 9 pm.  Emergency crews from the surrounding area were initially called to the scene.

Fort Drum (WSYR-TV) -- The Watertown Daily Times is reporting that a lighting strike at Fort Drum has sent five people to the hospital. Initial reports indicated that up to 10 people were struck.

The incident reportedly happened near Fort Drum Range 23, which is near Weaver Road and Russell Turnpike.

A deputy public affairs officer for the 10th Mountain Division who spoke with the newspaper did not provide details about the incident.

NewsChannel 9 has reached out to Fort Drum and local emergency crews, but we have not received additional information.
