Croghan— It is almost that time for teddy bears, flowers, or you can’t go wrong with a box of chocolate. With only 6 days before Valentines Day, one chocolate store owner says the Valentines Day rush is just beginning.
Chocolate enthusiast and owner of Croghan Candy Kitchen, Jeff Roose explained why his chocolates were unique. “We’re one of the only stores around that makes all of our own chocolates hand dipped” said Mr. Roose, “other stores make them by factory because it is easier.”
Mr. Roose started in the chocolate business in an unusual twist of fate. He opened up Croghan Candy Kitchen back in 1991; a move he said was out of necessity. Mr. Roose got laid off from his job, he refused to go on unemployment and decided he would open up his own candy store. Mr. Roose and his wife got inspired to open up the shop after visiting a friend in Indiana that had a similar shop. Mr. Roose and his wife were encouraged to become small business owners of their little chocolate kitchen.
Croghan Candy Kitchen has been a strong presence in Croghan, New York for 22 years. According to Mr. Roose, many loyal chocolate lovers not only stop by during the holidays, but to simply stock up on their favorite chocolate treats.
