Watertown (WTNY) -- Mercy of Northern New York is now history. The Watertown facility, which has been a fixture on Stone St. for generations, officially closed on Monday.
Yesterday, the final residents in the building were moved to the new Samaritan Summit Village on Rt. 11. Mercy had undergone years of financial instability and was set to close in 2010 before Samaritan Medical Center stepped in and agreed to run the facility until a new senior living center could be built.
Now that the closure has officially occurred, questions are what to do with the property. Watertown officials along with local economic development groups have been trying to figure out an answer to that question. They are marketing it for potential development.
