Watertown (WTNY) -- Watertown City Mayor Jeff Graham wants the City Council to revisit the controversial issue of roommates within certain residential neighborhoods.

In January City Council approved a zoning change for residential neighborhoods that further restricted the number of non-relatives that can live with each other in a home. The law created a stir several weeks ago after the story went viral. Last week, Graham met with members of the city planning board and other officials. During last night's Council meeting, he asked city staff to draw up two separate ordinances. One would restore language removed by the council with their January decision. The other would amend the code's definition of family to make it a single declaration of people living as a single housekeeping unit.

The ordinances would be reviewed by the Planning Board before coming before the Council for a vote.
