Mercy Care Center closing; 240 jobs lost

Nathan Lehman WTNY -- Some of those workers may be able to get new jobs when Samaritan Medical Center open's it's new senior care facility on outer Washington St. next spring.

Watertown -- It was inevitable, but it's also now official. 

Mercy Care Center in Watertown will be closing early next year. Mercy informed the city late last week that the facility will be closed in February. That means 240 employees will be losing their jobs. Some of those workers may be able to get new jobs when Samaritan Medical Center open's it's new senior care facility on outer Washington St. next spring. That's where many of Mercy's residents will likely be going as well. 

Mercy has struggled with financial problems for some time.
