Soldier denies murder charge of 7 month old infant

Nathan Lehman (WTNY) - Gary McKenzie is also charged with reckless assault of a child and and endangering the welfare of a child.

Gouverneur (WTNY) -- A local soldier has pleaded not guilty to charges that he caused the death of an infant several months ago in Gouverneur.

Twenty two year old Gary McKenzie was arraigned Monday on charges of second degree murder and manslaughter. He is alleged to have killed 7 month Braylin Chambers in July by throwing the child onto the floor. The infant was the son of McKenzie's girlfriend, and he was watching the boy while she was out at work.

McKenzie is also charged with reckless assault of a child and and endangering the welfare of a child.

He is being held on $100,000 bail.
