A resident of Chaumont might just be presented with the “Big Check” from Publishers Clearing House and be a lucky new millionaire.

Bethany Smith, 81, was announced today by Publishers Clearing House to have made the “short list,” meaning she is one of 211 people who could be the lucky super prize winner that Publishers Clearing House Patrol surprises next week.

Mrs. Smith has won a minimum of $1,000, and will find out Monday, February 28th if her name is on the winning check.

Out of the 211 people on the short list, Mrs. Smith is the only contestant in New York to have this opportunity.

Mrs. Smith said she entered via email 15 times, continuing that she never thought that she would win and it was just a hoax.

When asked what she will do with the money she simply said she will take care of her family first.

Mrs. Smith has lived in Northern New York her entire life, originally from Theresa. She and her husband Bill moved to Chaumont nearly 5 years ago.
