Orange opens up training camp

The Syracuse University football team began practicing for the 2014 season on Saturday. The team opens up regular season play on Friday, August 29th, when Villanova comes to the Carrier Dome.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- The Orange football team held its first practice of fall camp on Saturday -- just less than four weeks away from the season opener against Villanova on August 29th.

Here are some key dates to watch out for during camp:

Saturday, August 9th Orange Fan Fest

Fans will get a chance to check out the Orange during an open practice. The event begins at 3pm at the SU Soccer Stadium, located on the East Colvin Street side of Manley Field House. SU takes the field for practice from 4:30 - 6:30pm, followed by an autograph session.

Fan Fest will include food, games, activities for kids, and appearances from various other SU athletes.

Tuesday, August 12th - Friday, August 15th - Training Camp at Fort Drum

For the third year in a row, the Orange heads north to Fort Drum, to train with military personnel and continue practice.

SU will participate in activities with members of the military and also hold a camp for children of military families.

Friday, August 29th, 7:30pm -- Season Opener vs. Villanova

SU opens up the 2014 season at home against FCS (formerly Division I-AA) opponent Villanova.
