Phone Scam Alert: If your phone rings once with an unknown # then stops, don't call it back

When you call that number back - you are charged nearly $20 for an International Call
(WWTI/WSYR) -- If you receive a phone call that only rings once - then stops - the Better Business Bureau is warning you not to call that number back.

The BBB says it’s a scam and it could cost you quite a bit of money.

The scam gets computers to send thousands of calls to phones that ring once - then disconnect.

When you call that number back - you are charged nearly $20 for an International Call - then another $9 per minute.

The BBB says the following area codes are associated with the scam:

Dominican Republic (809)
Jamaica (876)
British Virgin Islands (284)
Grenada (473)
Antigua (268)

You are urged to check your wireless bills carefully and inform your carrier immediately if you spot any unauthorized charges.
