Watertown (WTNY) -- The proposed Jefferson County budget has been released, and it comes as expected, with a tax increase.
According to the "Watertown Daily Times", the budget for the fiscal year 2014 will include a tax rate increase of about 1.97%. That would mean a property accessed at $100,000 would see an increase of $13 on their tax bill. The budget is actually less than the current year, but a drop in revenues, specifically projected sales tax, means property taxes will have to go up.
Legislators will begin working on the budget proposal and could make changes within the next few weeks.
