After parts of the highway began closing Monday night, the highway is now completely open as the winter weather slowly lets up
Watertown, N.Y. - After being closed for nearly 48-hours, I-81 is open again to travelers. Drivers can still expect snowy conditions, but nothing as dangerous as what they would have ran into in the early parts of this week.
At one point a 50-mile stretch of 81 was closed due to the harsh conditions - ranging from North Syracuse through the Canadian border. Many travelers were stranded in towns such as Adams, which opened it's Fire Hall doors to provide shelter.
The State Department of Transportation still advices caution when traveling via Interstate-81.
