(NBC) (18 NEWS) – Peas or Carrots?
Those are the names of the two turkeys vying to be pardoned by President Trump Tuesday, as part of an annual tradition dating back to the late 1980s.
While the tradition technically began with Ronald Reagan’s presidential pardon in 1987, the ceremony was formalized in 1989 by President George H.W. Bush.
The White House took votes on Peas v. Carrots through a twitter poll Monday. The winner will be announced during a ceremony Tuesday.
Only one turkey will be name this year’s official “Thanksgiving Turkey,” but both will be sent to veterinarians at Virginia Tech. The school’s mascot is, of course, the turkey.
