Applebee's credits stress eating for increased sales

(WIVB) - More Americans are eating at Applebee's, and the restaurant chain says it has stress to thank.

Applebee's says U.S. store sales jumped nearly eight percent in the third quarter of this year.

The company's president says people are stress eating, and credits the jump to Applebee's focus on comfort food and cheap alcoholic drink specials.

Applebee's says when customers are stressed out, they tend to order alcohol with their dinner, and the food focuses on what the company calls "abundant value," like all-you-can-eat entrees.
