Dermatologist Fredric Brandt was found dead in his Miami, Fla., home on Sunday. The 65-year-old doctor had many celebrity patients, including Madonna and model Stephanie Seymour.

Brandt’s publicist Jacquie Trachtenberg told the New York Post that he was “suffering from an illness. Everyone who knows him is devastated.”

Miami Police were dispatched to the house Sunday morning, in reference to an attempted suicide. Brandt was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Brandt opened his first private dermatology practice in Miami, Fla., in 1982 and later opened a second practice in New York City. He is the author of two skin care books and served as host of SiriusXM radio show “Ask Dr. Brandt” which featured beauty discussions with guests including Gwyneth Paltrow, Kelly Ripa and Linda Wells.

Prior to his death The Miami Herald reported that Brandt was “devastated” by comparisons to Martin Short’s character on Netflix’s comedy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. “The show definitely deeply hurt him,” Trachtenberg confirmed to the Post. “He was being made fun of because of the way he looks.

“It is mean, and it was bullying. But the show was not the reason for his depression, and it was not the reason he would take his own life,” said Trachtenberg, adding that Brandt’s death was “sudden” without going into detail.

A statement from Brandt’s agency read, “In all ways, Dr. Brandt was a tremendous presence in the beauty industry, a man who was incomparably skilled as a doctor but equally caring and generous as a human being. He loved singing show tunes and creating raps while he worked, keeping his patients happy and laughing while they were being injected with needles. It was impossible to walk out of his office without a smile on your face, feeling rejuvenated inside and out.”
