Knickerbocker to stagger dismissal times

With the start of the school year just weeks away, the Watertown City School District is trying something new to try to alleviate traffic and safety concerns during pick up times at Knickerbocker Elementary.

The issue came to light this past year after school officials approached the city with concerns of traffic congestion along the school, especially during the later afternoon when school lets out for the day.

Starting this year, instead of one single dismissal time, dismissal will be staggered.

Some students will be dismissed at 2:55 pm while others will be dismissed at 3:05 pm. School officials are hoping that will ease some of the traffic and safety concerns.

The City Council this summer also passed a resolution that bans parking on the northside of Knickerbocker Drivel along the school during school days.

It’s expected the street as a whole will be reconstructed with curbing added at some point in the future.
