Soldiers from Fort Drum will soon be deploying to one of the most dangerous portions of Afghanistan.
According to the Army Times, members of the 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment are heading to war-torn country within the next month.
The New York Times reports that the troops are specifically going to the province of Helmand, a key battle ground in the fight against the Taliban.
Military officials, though, say the soldiers will not take roles in active combat according to the New York Times.
In total, close to 500 soldiers will be shipping out.
