WHAT: Soldiers from the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI) will jump into the Black River Bay in Sackets Harbor from a Chinook cargo helicopter.
WHEN: Friday, September 14 at 7:30 a.m.
WHERE: Sackets Harbor
During the training exercise, known as a helocast, the helicopter will fly in to a designated location in the bay. Once there, the aircraft will hover just above the water’s surface; Soldiers will then exit the aircraft, enter the water, and move to a point on shore. The training objective is to enhance ground and amphibious reconnaissance missions.
This training opportunity is part of a partnership between the Sackets Harbor community and the 2nd Brigade Combat Team. As part of the community partnership, Fort Drum Soldiers will volunteer their time to clean up gravestones at the Military Cemetery in Sackets Harbor.
