WATERTOWN, N.Y. (September 21, 2015) – WWTI-ABC 50/Nexstar Broadcasting Group, Inc. is pleased to announce that for the first time in 11 years the station will once again be producing local programming for the Northern New York communities.
“I am very excited to announce our ‘Made in Northern New York with Alex Hazard’ series,” said David Males, Vice President and General Manager. “This marks the first time since August 2004 that we will have locally produced half-hour programming for our communities.”
“In 2004, we had to make the difficult decision to exit the production of local news in order to continue serving the North Country with other resources,” Males explained. “Since that time we’ve come full-circle and are now happily in the position to bring back local programming. This is a huge and much needed step as we continue our current growth pattern and our commitment to our viewers and supporters.”
The first telecast of “Made in Northern New York with Alex Hazard” will air Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. The second part of the series will air Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. A one-hour bonus special will be scheduled for later in December. These programs will highlight extraordinary local people who make us proud to live in Northern New York. These people come from all walks of life; from business and athletics, to the music industry and others that have a very strong tie to the North Country.
“This is just the beginning of a new commitment to bring more local programming to Northern New York,” Males stated.
WWTI is owned by Nexstar Broadcasting Company, Inc. Nexstar owns and operates 114 television stations and 19 related digital signals in 59 markets, reaching approximately 18% of all U.S. households or 20.4 million television households.
