Rumors are spreading throughout St. Lawrence County regarding potential new life for a closed-off factory.

An official from Alcoa told the Watertown Daily Times that the company is “working with a third party to lease the Massena East facility.” Alcoa closed off the east plant in 2015 and has also cut back operations throughout other portions of the site in St. Lawrence County.

While nothing is confirmed and details are limited, finding a tenant for Alcoa East has sparked signficant interest in and around Massena. The Times reports that Alcoa’s parent company is also working to potentially lease empty space throughout its west plant.
