An alleged suicidal man led police on a slow-speed chase in St. Lawrence County Wednesday night.

Sheriff’s deputies have charged 46-year-old Robert Yekel of Massena with DWI, running a stop sign, speeding, and consumption of alcohol in a vehicle.

Deputies were first called after a report of a suicidal supsect was driving a pickup truck near Louisville.

Yekel eventually stopped his vehicle in Waddington, but he and passenger 49-year-old Bonnie Lamay initially refused to comply with officers.

After a period of time, Lamay was first out before Yekel was finally handcuffed and taken to the hospital for observation.

The Watertown Daily Times reports that Yekel has a lengthy rapsheet, including felony convictions on sexual abuse and assault.
