North Carolina cut the nets down as champions of NCAA men’s basketball last night, but around here Boldt Castle is the real winner of March Madness.

That’s because the tourist attraction along the St. Lawrence River was declared winner of New York’s warm-weather destination tournament.

The old castle on Heart Island was one of 32 locales that were pitted against each other in a bracket-style contest, where voters helped chose who advanced.

Boldt Castle edged out Letchworth State Park, which finished second, along with other hot spots like Bear Mountain State Park and Howe Caverns.
