While not committing any money just yet, Watertown City Council has agreed to give help to the struggling New York State Zoo at Thompson Park.

The zoo in Watertown has been in the red for years, currently by about $130,000.

And to stay afloat, its asking for Council to give just over $100,000 in funds spaced out over the next two years.

Members agreed that the zoo is a priority, but held off on talking money until budget discussions heat up next month.

And according to the Watertown Daily Times, a zoo director has been named for the first time in well over a year–with Lesley Clark taking that position.
