One of the issues that the new Watertown City Council would like to tackle in the new year is the housing issue.

As a result, the city is considering bringing back a program that includes a partnership with several other organizations to fix up empty homes and find new owners.

The NDC program would involve the city, Neighbors of Watertown, and the Development Authority of the North Country.

Homes that go through the city’s foreclosure process would be given to Neighbors of Watertown to be rehabilitated, with funding coming from DANC.

The city has used the partnership to fix up about a dozen homes in the past.

As far as rental properties go, Councilman Steve Jennings is hoping to revive his property inspection proposal that he first mentioned early in his term on the Council two years ago.

Details of that program have yet to be finalized and announced publicly.
