The Watertown City Council has voted to move ahead with eminent domain proceedings against the owners of the Stateway Plaza in Watertown.
The move is being done in a bid to fully complete Western Blvd., the proposed city street that would connect Coffeen and Arsenal Streets through the plaza.
Plans for the city owned connector road have been discussed for years, but stalled when the city and the plaza owners couldn’t come to terms on a deal to purchase the property needed to fully connect the street.
On Tuesday night, the Watertown City Council agreed to move ahead with eminent domain to try to acquire the remainder of the property needed to complete the road.
Developer Patrick Donegan, who owns property adjacent to the plaza, has stated in the past he could bring in retailers to the area if the road is completed.
