Council member Macaluso brought in reps from Utica to talk about bringing in refugees

Local News

Watertown City Council member Teresa Macaluso tells 7 News, it’s all about knowledge when it comes to bringing refugees to Watertown.

Macaluso asked Mohawk Valley Center for Refugees of Utica reps to speak to City Council last week.

That group has brought refugees from places like Syria and Malaysia to Utica for decades. Macaluso asked the representatives to give information to other members to see if Watertown could eventually be a good spot for a similar setup.

But Macaluso tells 7 News that some people’s issues with the idea are unfounded because they don’t know all of the information on the situation.

Watertown isn’t looking into hosting refugees right now and would actually still have to qualify to even have that possibility.
