Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers could receive free tuition under a new plan proposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
The Governor announced the proposal alongside former Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders at LaGuardia Community College in Queens on Tuesday.
The plan is the first of its kind, Cuomo noted.
Students planning on attending state colleges or two-year colleges would receive free tuition if their families earn less than $125,000 per year.
Nearly one million families in New York State would qualify, the Governor noted.

The three-year plan would begin this fall – but legislators must first approve of it.
The plan is expected to cost approximately $163 million.
The plan was initially reported in The New York Times.
