With spring temperatures (slowly) rising, the DEC is offering advice so your pets avoid run-ins with coyotes.

There are Eastern Coyotes who have moved into the state, residing in suburban and rural areas.

And DEC officials say they tend to be territorial around their dens this time of year, specifically when their pups are born.

So, they recommend keeping your pet’s food indoors and making it so your garbage isn’t accessible to would-be hungry coyotes.

The DEC says small dogs are most vulnerable to being attacked.
