An education rally was held over the weekend at Indian River High School. The target was Governor Cuomo. State education leaders are accusing the Governor of holding education funding for North Country schools hostage. The governor has said that he will withhold school aid if the state legislature doesn’t agree with education reforms, such as increased weight of standardized testing in teacher evaluations. Local educators say many North Country schools have been left scrambling financially with cuts in funding in recent years. Supporters of reform argue that the state has one of the highest education spending rates in the country, and little to show for it in student performance. The Indian River stop was one of several statewide for the bus tour.
