North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik joined a number of other House Republicans Thursday in supporting a bill placing further restrictions on Syrian refugees entering the country.
The legislation required increased security measures through more comprehensive background checks.
The measure passed 289-137.
The bill was put together in response to last weeks deadly terror attacks in Paris and concerns that ISIS may have infiltrated the thousands of Syrian refugees seeking asylum in the United States.
The measure now moves on to the Senate.
President Obama, who supports bringing in the refugees, has promised a veto.
