The plan to shift roles of certain members of the Watertown Fire Department goes into effect soon.
In order to crunch the budget, city officials agreed to demote eight captains within the department.
As a result, there will be two fewer captains on duty per shift–down from five to three.
Also, there will be a creation of “unit leaders” who will take on some of the responsibility of captains, just without the pay raise.
Fire Chief Dale Herman tells 7 News that more trucks also may end up responding to incidents as well.
