A piece of American history in the north country, one with ties to the Underground Railroad, is heading to auction.
Thomas Memorial AME Zion Church in Watertown has been a fixture in Watertown for nearly a century.
But its caretaker Buster Crabbe fell ill a couple of years ago and has since recently passed away. And in that time, the church has fallen into disrepair.
Since services haven’t been held at the Morrison Street location for years, it has gone back on to city tax rolls.
Now, because of the inactivity, according to 7 News, the historic church, complete with an Underground Railroad muesum, will go up for auction this June.
