The traffic circle in front of Watertown’s Thompson Park could become an ice skating rink once again.

Parks and Rec Director Erin Gardner is spearheading the project, which needs about $6,000 to $8,000 in donations to become a reality. The circle was once a yearly ice-skating destination, but the annual tradition went away decades ago.Gardner, according to the Watertown Daily Times, wants to have the rink back, making it a feature of this year’s Snowtown USA, which begins on Friday and will run for nine days.

Snowtown is not in the budget, but city employees are on the clock when working on setup and tear down of events. As a result, should enough money be raised, the Times reports Mayor Joe Butler Jr., wants it to be cold enough so that manpower on maintaining the rink is at a minimum.
