Jefferson Community College (JCC) is pleased to announce that Danielle M. Scott, Watertown, and Mikayla R. Warren, Chaumont, have received the State University of New York (SUNY) 2015 Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. This honor, established in 1997, is bestowed upon students who have best demonstrated and been recognized for the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts or career achievement. Both students will be recognized for their achievements at Jefferson’s commencement ceremony on May 15, 2015.
Danielle Scott will be graduating from Jefferson with an associate in science degree in business administration as well as a certificate in hospitality and tourism. Danielle also holds an associate in arts degree in humanities and social sciences earned from Jefferson in 2014. Danielle is a member of the Tau Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and was named to either the President’s List or Dean’s List each semester at Jefferson. A campus leader, Danielle is the current president of Student Government (SG), served previously as SG treasurer and also served as vice president and acting secretary for the Asian Culture Club. In addition, Danielle is a student representative on the Faculty Student Association board of directors and has participated in the College’s Calendar Workgroup Committee and the Budget Review Committee. Danielle continues to hone her skills as a member of the Sigma Alpha Pi chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success. She plans to continue her studies at SUNY Empire State College where she will major in business administration.
Mikayla Warren will be graduating from Jefferson with her associate in science degree in mathematics and science. She has earned both President’s List and Dean’s List academic honors and is a member of Jefferson’s Tau Xi Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. During her two years at Jefferson, Mikayla was a member of the Campus Orientation Registration Educators (CORE) for New Student Services. As student CORE leader this past year, Mikayla was instrumental in the planning of the College’s first ever Cannoneer Welcome Weekend for new residence life students. In addition to being a CORE leader, Mikayla was a member and secretary of the Dance Club and participated in numerous co-curricular activities such as National Chemistry Week, Super Science Saturday and in the call center for the Center for Community Studies. In the community, Mikayla is a dancer with the Northern Lights Dance Company and volunteers her time as game assistant for the Lyme Central School varsity girls basketball team. Mikayla is transferring to SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry where she will major in wildlife science.
Ms. Scott and Ms. Warren were among 256 students from across all SUNY college campuses that were honored April 2 at the annual Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence Awards Ceremony held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany.
“It is my highest honor to recognize the achievements of SUNY students who have excelled not only academically but as leaders on their campuses and in their communities,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. “Students receiving this award are to be commended for their excellence as role models, artists, scholar athletes, and civic volunteers. Their leadership can serve as an inspiration to all SUNY students and a tremendous point of pride for the entire SUNY family.”
