Local Walmart and Sam’s Club stores are once again joining forces to raise money for Samaritan Medical Center during the annual Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) campaign.

Walmart and Sam’s Club associates, customers and members have raised more than $1 million dollars for Samaritan Medical Center since 1990. On a national level, Walmart and Sam’s Club are closing in on the $1 billion fundraising mark for CMN Hospitals in the U.S. and Canada.

”Walmart and Sam’s Club continue to make miracles happen for local kids,” said Kristin LaClair, CMN Development Manager. “Funds raised from their campaign allow CMN to support child-centered areas at Samaritan and help local families facing a medical crisis through our Direct Family Assistance Program.”

Money is raised primarily through a register campaign where customers and members contribute $1 or more when they checkout. Associates also fundraise in other ways including bake sales, in-store contests and events.

The 2017 campaign raised $86,270 for Samaritan Medical Center. This year, Walmart and Sam’s Club have set a goal to raise $126,135 for local kids.

The register campaign runs from Aug. 27 to Sept. 30. Customers and members can conveniently donate $1 or more when they check out at any Walmart or Sam’s Club location in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence County.

Money raised at tri-county Walmart and Sam’s Club stores goes directly to benefit the sick and injured kids treated at Samaritan Medical Center. Funds are used to pay for equipment, research, supplies, charitable care and a variety of other needs the hospital has.

Walmart and Sam’s Club joined the CMN Hospitals fundraising family in 1987 with Sam Walton himself being personally involved in the beginning of the relationship between the organizations. The fundraising campaigns supports Walmart’s goal of giving back to local communities.

Customers and members can help spread the word about the campaign via social media using the hashtag #HelpKidsLiveBetter.
