Many New York State inmates are fed for less than three-dollars a day.

According to the Times Union, the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision makes most of its food in an industrial sized facility attached to the Mohawk Correctional Facility in the City of Rome.

The state corrections food director said they mass produce 40-percent of the entrees for 87-percent of the prison population.

He said that the food is as good as what you would have at home, but the New York Civil Liberties Union said food complaints are very common from inmates.
