Most everyone is glad to see February gone for the year, especially when you hear this statistic. Yes, February was coldest February on record for Watertown. It was also the coldest month ever on record. According to the National Weather Service, the average high for Watertown last month was 6.1 degrees. That beats the previous record set at 7.9 degrees set back in February 1978. Watertown wasn’t alone. Rochester, Syracuse, and Buffalo also recorded similar records. The average high for the month is usually 21.1 degrees. Only one day out of 28 did the temperature reach above freezing. The first day of Spring is just 18 days from today.
