Christina Gardner, Carthage, has been named Outstanding Employee for the month of February at New Day Children’s Center. The award was established by the Board of Directors to recognize a New Day staff member for going above and beyond in a way that makes a positive impact on the lives of children. Gardner is a head teacher in one of New Day’s two 3-year old classrooms and in her 27th year of service at New Day.
Chris is a dedicated teacher, well respected by her colleagues, adored by the children and greatly appreciated by parents and family members. She plans a multitude of extra activities for the children that are hands on, messy and engaging. Chris shares with the children her love of outdoors and nature, and her annual Thanksgiving feast shows her commitment to building strong connections with family members. In addition, the nomination noted that without being asked, Chris “comes in early every day to prepare the spray bottle solution for all nine classrooms”, a time consuming task, and is always prepared to lend a helping hand or provide coverage in a pinch.
Gardner is the first recipient of the employee recognition awards program established by the Board of Directors in January 2016. Areas in which a staff member may be nominated can include parent communication, health/safety, classroom environment/programming, community involvement/child advocacy or a category may be written in by the nominator.
Any full-time or part-time New Day employee, employed at New Day for at least 30 days, is eligible for the award. Nominations may be submitted by a parent/family member, staff member, a member of the Board of Directors, or a community member.
