Counties throughout New York are getting some much needed funding to improve their 9-1-1 systems.

State officials announced a more than $50 million statewide initiative for next level emergency communications. Breaking down the numbers in the north country: Jefferson County will get just over $647,000; Lewis County is set to receive over $653,000; and St. Lawrence County will see around $937,000.

The funding will go toward improving radio coverage through equipment and antenna upgrades. Governor Andrew Cuomo says the funding will help first responders have the best equipment to help them get to where they’re needed faster.
